It’s already halfway through November, which means fall is almost coming to a dead end. So pack up those shorts and cut-offs because it is time to stock up on the five things every man should have in his closet this winter.
1) Cardigans and v-neck sweaters
Drake isn’t the only one who knows how to wear a nice sweater. Every man should have at least one nice sweater in his closet. When buying a nice sweater, match the color with your skin tone. For darker-skinned men, a solid yellow sweater works beautifully and for lighter-skinned men, a nice pink sweater goes a long way with the ladies.
2) Dress Boots
For the winter, you will need to have a boot that gives you more warmth than your average dress shoe. Most guys prefer to have a black or grey leather boot with a slight heel. When it comes to having a little heel, anything too high makes it obvious you’re compensating for something, so keep it low, gentlemen. You can grab an affordable pair of boots at Aldo or Kenneth Cole.
3) Trendy Socks
Obviously this winter you are going to be spending the majority of your time indoors, which means shoes off at the door! A.K.A. you need to step your sock game up. You first need to make sure there are absolutely no holes in your socks and that they don’t smell.
Brown shoes go with blue or brown socks (never black). Black shoes get back or dark gray (never brown or blue) and at this point, unless you’re about to go to the gym, you don’t need white socks at all. If you are looking for some trendy new socks, check the website Happy Socks.
4) Accessorize with hats, scarves and gloves
First let’s start with hats. If you are slimmer or on the slender side, try a fedora. For the more stocky guys, lean more towards a driving cap. But to be honest, those rules aren’t etched in stone so wear what you feel comfortable in.
Next are your scarves. Most men prefer a lengthy cashmere scarf, but wool is always a good option if you’re trying to stay warm. Visit the website AskMen.com to find some really neat knots to take your scarf game to the next level.
As for gloves, basic leather driving gloves are a staple every man should own. They should be a tight fit so that you don’t lose your mobility.
5) Full-length wool coat
Let’s get things straight, your trench coat doesn’t stand a chance against Michigan’s harsh winter weather and its no longer “cool” to wear a North Face with slacks. So its time to invest in a full or three-quarter length wool coat.
Overall, the most important thing about this piece of fashion is that you are warm. Length is important too because you want to make sure it fits. Ralph Lauren sells some awesome coats, but if you don’t want to spend that much money, try Macy’s.
