October 16, 2013 Campus Fashion, Student Styles, Style, Trend and Beauty HOW TO: Make hair bows Sporting events are always fun. There’s the game, atmosphere and fashion. Yes, fashion at a sporting event is something to look forward to. Girls always tend to go all-out when they go to a game, whether it’s a jersey, jewelry or hair accessories. Why not support your fellow Chippewas at football games with a hair bow? Here is what you will need: Two different colored ribbons. One should be wider than the other. Hair clip Needle Thread There are no particular measurements for how much ribbon you should use. It depends on how big or small you want it to be. Have your needle threaded and ready to go! Start with the wider ribbon and make one loop with a tail on it. This loop will determine how big the bow will be. Make a second to match the first on the opposite side. This is where it gets tricky. Make a third loop on top of the first loop and a fourth loop on top of the second loop, with a tail hanging down. Put a few stitches where all of the ribbons overlap. Repeat all steps with the smaller ribbon, making it slightly smaller than the bigger bow. Take a small piece of the smaller ribbon and tie a knot in the middle. Place the smaller bow on top of the bigger bow and wrap the little piece of ribbon around them, with the knot in the front. If you have a hot glue gun, glue the ribbon on. If not, you can sew it on. Next you will need the hair clip. Again, use a hot glue gun to glue it onto the ribbon, if available. If not, you can sew the ribbon onto the hair clip by going through the fabric of the ribbon, and taking the needle and thread through the metal of the clip. You’re almost done! All that’s left to do is trim the tails of ribbon and put clear nail polish on the ends, so they don’t fray. The bow looks a little neater if the smaller bow’s tails are trimmed a little higher than the bigger bow’s tails. Making this type of bow is easier if the ribbon is not patterned because if the ribbon gets twisted, you can’t tell. These bows are perfect for Central football games or even for the NFL! Go buy ribbon to support your team, and happy crafting!
