March 23, 2015 Style, Trend and Beauty Makeup Monday: Mastering the Smokey Eye The smokey eye is a classic makeup look that gives your eyes the recognition they deserve. This look defines eyes while adding dimension to make them stand out. Learning how to achieve this complicated look in a variety of different ways isn’t an easy task, but with a little practice, you’ll be able to master it no time. The best news? Three different version of this look can be achieved using just one palette – Coastal Scents Neutral Palette. Colleen Dluzynski poses with a nude smokey eye. (Photo | Kaiti Chritz) Nude Smokey Eye Perfect for: Daytime, classes, errands, meetings Colors needed: Light cream, beige, medium brown Where to apply: Apply the light cream shadow just under your brow and starting from the inner corner of the eye, extend across the lid. Next, take beige and apply from the outer corner of the eye across the crease, about three-fourths of the way toward your inner eye. With just one more dip into the palette, place beige below the crease, between the middle and outer corner of the lid. Make sure there is still visible highlight in the inner corner of the lid and then blend the beige to blur lines. Take the medium brown shade and apply it to the outer corner of the lid with strokes toward the lash line and the crease. Blend toward the inside of the eye. For this daytime look, do not extend the brown much past your crease to keep the shadow looking natural. Dluzynski poses with a purple smokey eye. (Photo | Kaiti Chritz) Purple Smokey Eye Perfect for: Hanging out with the girls, dates, dinners, events Colors needed: Cream, light beige, mauve, deep purple Where to apply: Just like the nude smokey eye, place the cream-colored shadow under your brow and on the inner corners of the eye. Coat your lid with the light beige. Fill your crease with the mauve shadow and blend entire lid. Add the deep purple in the outer corner of the eye, blending upward for more of a statement look. Purple flatters most eye colors, so this smokey eye is great for nearly everyone. Dluzynski poses with a classic smokey eye. (Photo | Kaiti Chritz) Classic Smokey Eye Perfect for: Nights out, formal events Colors needed: Gold, black Where to apply: This smokey eye is simple, yet adds the most drama to your eyes. Apply gold shadow to your entire eyelid. Next, dip your brush in black shadow and tap off excess; the shade will be layered to ensure the right amount of color. Start at the outer edge of the eyelid and dab lightly around the outer corner of the eye. Blend into the gold and continue to apply layers of black until you reach your desired level of drama.
