April 14, 2012 Campus Fashion, Featured, Style, Uncategorized THREADS Fashion Show: Style editor preview Get a sneak peak at what will be hitting the runway at the THREADS 2012 Fashion show. It’s the moment when a whole year of planning, hard work, broken needles and long nights can be summed up in a mere two minutes — two minutes that are one of the most rewarding college experiences I have ever had. Adding the final touches to my collection, I cannot stop smiling because of my excitement. The feeling a designer gets seeing their garments walk down the runway and audience reactions to their work is indescribable. I have had the privilege to work and see other designer work and I think the THREADS 2012 fashion show is going to exceeds everyone’s expectations. Designers Megan Webster, Ebony Harris, Lindsey Raver and Lauren Goeller-Ness also shared their excitement for the show this past week. (Photo Illustrations by Mike Barone) Co-producer Jason Gagnon also believes that designers have exceeded the standards this year and he is proud of everyone’s hard work. For the time-themed fashion show I am doing the ‘80s. I love the nostalgic essence of the decade. While trend researching for my collection, I did not look at too many ‘80s fashions because the period has such a distinct look. Instead, I looked at current and future trends and how I could interpret them. I wanted to give a sneak peak to what you may see in my collection and some other designers’ expectations for Saturday’s show. One of my looks is a embellished dress with side cut outs and a front gold zipper — and no, I did not spend hours beading this dress. It was a class project I completed last semester for the ‘Project Runway’ style construction of apparel draping. The biggest challenge was deconstructing the dress. If I were to cut the thread slightly, all the beads would start unraveling. I purchased a black plain sheath dress from Goodwill, and what I call my ‘Dynasty’ dress from Kate’s Designer Consignor located on 1809 Mission St. in Mount Pleasant. I think I love this even more because it took me less than five hours to make. I really wanted to do a bow, which was seen a lot in '80s dresses and garments, without doing a literal interpretation. (Brooke Whitten | Photo Editor) The last garment I wanted to share with you was a custom designed printed dress. This year was the first opportunity Central Michigan design students had to create and design a custom-made design for free print. The fabric is not finished, so it is not machine washable. I was really inspired by my paint -splashed and abstract fabric from one of my garments. (Brooke Whitten | Photo Editor)
