September 12, 2025 Campus Life, College Living, Community, Features, Features, Lifestyle, People, People of Central Meet the Editors: Brooke DuVall and Beth Nocerini Story by: Staff Beth Nocerini is the Editor in Chief (president) of Grand Central Magazine. She is a sophomore studying journalism with a minor in political science. “I’ve always loved writing, and I love gossip, so journalism really fit the bill for me,” Nocerini said. Planning to become a reporter or journalist, Nocerini first got involved with GCM as a freshman. “I thought it would be a good way to get to know people and get better at my interviewing skills,” said Nocerini. Editor in Chief, Beth Nocerini Some of Nocerini’s hobbies are watching Marvel movies, paddle boarding, being with her dogs and reading. One of Nocerini’s favorite stories she has written for the magazine was the first one she did. A story on Jacob Mcleod, a student at CMU who is a songwriter and singer. “That interview for me cleared all doubt on the major I chose, I felt like for the first time that I was on the right path,” said Nocerini. “I get to meet someone new almost every week along with working on my journalism skills,” said Nocerini when asked why she continues to write for GCM. Nocerini chose GCM because of the ability to get involved right away. “I had a meeting with the editor in chief one day, and was writing a story the next,” she said. Nocerini’s favorite quote is, “learn to listen, listen to learn,” originally from Tom Izzo but said frequently by her father while growing up. Brooke DuVall is the Managing Editor (vice president) for GCM. She is a senior majoring in English with a minor in creative writing and plans to work in copywriting or publishing. “I majored in English because I love reading and writing,” said DuVall. Managing Editor, Brooke DuVall DuVall joined GCM during her junior year after transferring to CMU. “I wanted to join a club that could give me editorial experience, writing about people and their experience was also something I wanted to explore,” said DuVall. DuVall’s favorite story she has written for GCM is, “Mandela Fest Brings Culture to Campus”, “Learning about Nepali culture was an immersive experience, seeing how passionate the NSA members were about their club was inspiring,” said DuVall. When asked why she writes for GCM DuVall said, “I like meeting new people and getting myself out of my comfort zone” along with, “writing for a journalism magazine gives me the opportunity to explore my community.” Some of DuVall’s hobbies are reading, going on nature walks and spending time with family. A favorite quote of DuVall’s is, “The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt,” by Sylvia Path. “I took on the role of vice president because I wanted to grow my leadership skills and challenge myself in new ways,” said DuVall. “Meeting new people through these experiences is something I’ll never forget, being able to write feature stories is fulfilling because everyone’s voice deserves to be heard,” DuVall said. To students questioning whether they should join GCM, DuVall says, “Do it! You’ll gain new perspectives that might chance the way you see the world and shape you as a person.”
