February 23, 2015 Opinion People of Central This week’s People of Central (inspired by Humans of New York) highlights the work of Central Michigan University photojournalism student Taylor Ballek. The Illinois senior documented the life of Joe Mullin, a man living in poverty in Grand Rapids. Here is an excerpt from her work: “Wealthy Street” Joe Mullin, 51, commonly know as “Sicilian Joe” on the streets, waits for a bus to come on Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 17, 2014. Mullin takes a bus when he can afford it in order to get to Frank’s Party Store in downtown Grand Rapids to buy alcohol. “I’m not going to lie; when I get a lick (money), I use it to go buy a drink and then use the remainder for food,” explains Mullen.
