The theme for homecoming this year is the maroon and gold brick road. Throughout the week students were able to participate in multiple activities around campus. On Tuesday, students had the chance to enter the Wizard of Oz PJ Contest and try their luck at a game of bingo!

Organized by the CMU Activities and Events committee, the event attracted a large crowd of students ready to participate.

Event Coordinator Kathlyn Allmacher explained how much went into organizing homecoming week, saying,

“The committee’s actually been working since last spring and over the summer. We met once a week, including four office hours each week.”

Fellow committee member Bryanna Voss said planning this event was a bonding experience.

“Everyone just works together, and we all came up with different ideas,” said Voss. “It was a lot of teamwork, you had the whole team helping you. It was a good group bonding experience.”

Allmacher said this event can bring people together for a night of fun. “It gets the community together. They can bond while meeting new people and playing games,” she said.

CMU student Lena Kandah enjoyed attending the event because it gave her the opportunity to step out of her daily routine. “I do think it’s fun to have the opportunity each day to do something new.It definitely takes you out of the routine and the monotony of class,” she said.

Having been on the Community Council in the past, Kandah appreciates being able to attend as a spectator. “Freshman and sophomore year I was on the Community Council, so I competed in a lot of these events. They’re really fun now as a spectator, I like to watch the competitions, eat the food, and enjoy the vibes,” she said.

The Biosciences Building was lively with friendly competition and school spirit, perfect for amping up Saturday’s homecoming game. Fire up chips!

On Thursday, students were able to meet CMU football players and maroon ambassadors while picking up a free donut and apple cider outside of the university center.

“If we have the students there being loud and crazy it will help” said Langston Lewis, wide receiver for the CMU football team on why students should attend the game this coming Saturday. When asked what the game plan was, he promptly responded with “win”.

Shaleah Lewis is a junior on campus. When asked why she likes homecoming she said, “I don’t like football, I like the festivities and the excitement and getting dressed up”.

While she has attended the different homecoming events, Shaleah said she is most excited for Rock Rally, which takes place Friday night in Warriner Hall.

Chance Hamilton and Trevor Sparks are freshmen on campus and have been soaking in all the advantages homecoming offers. “It’s been a blast,” said Hamilton.

“As a freshman it seems almost more personal than my high school’s homecoming, meeting all of the coaches and athletes was amazing,” said Sparks. Both freshmen are excited and fired up to go to the football game on Saturday.

At Rock Rally, the 2025 Gold Ambassador was announced to be Biance Cabarios. On Thursday she was asked how she feels about hearing the results.

Cabarios said, “So excited, this week has been so much fin and such an honor to be surrounded by such amazing leaders” and “I will be happy no matter what.”
