December 30, 2013 Campus Fashion, Student Styles, Style, Trend and Beauty How to make your own New Year’s Eve hat It’s almost the New Year, which means it’s time for New Year’s Eve parties. Of course this means gold, silver and glitter on everything you wear. Accessories for whatever party you choose to attend are a must. Perhaps you will chose to show off that bold necklace you got for Christmas, or those glittery heels you’ve been dying to wear. Maybe you want to wear a cute hat, but don’t know what you want it to look like. Don’t worry! We have the perfect solution. It’s time to make your party hat. It is very Kate Middleton-like, if we may say so ourselves. They resemble fascinators, although they are a bit more playful than the ones Kate typically wears. You will need a cone-shaped party hat (or construction paper), an old headband, a hot glue gun and anything you will want to use to decorate your hat (such as decorative paper, glitter, paint, tinsel, and tissue paper). If you have a party hat, then you are a step ahead. If you are using construction paper, make a cone with it and tape it. You can make the cone as big or small as you would like. Glue a piece of paper to the bottom of the cone. This will make it easier to glue it onto the headband. Paint the cone however you like (remember it’s NYE, so gold, silver or black may be in order), spray paint would be easiest for this. New Year’s Eve party hat made by Kelly Lanza from the blog Studio DIY. Continue to decorate the cone. Add glitter, bows, tissue paper, and tinsel, anything you can think of to make it more festive. Make designs with glitter, put tinsel around the bottom, add a bow on top or whatever you think will express your style the best. When it is decorated to your liking go ahead and hot glue the hat onto your headband and let it dry. Now that you have the perfect accessory, make sure the outfit you have planned matches, and doesn’t take away from your hat. You want to draw attention to your newest creation, after all. Even though this hat may be nothing you would normally wear, it’s always fun to ring in the New Year with an unexpected twist. This NYE hat is the perfect way to do so. Happy New Year, here’s to a great year!
