As Bob Davies steps down and welcomes Neil MacKinnon as the 16th president of CMU, the Student Government Association is preparing to welcome him with open arms. The transfer of power can be difficult to adjust to, especially in the middle of the semester but SGA members are excited to see what this change will bring.

SGA treasurer, Akua Acheampong, said SGA is trying to be prepared with things they are supposed to do and to have a smooth transition and not have too much of a bumpy ride.

“Change is nice sometimes.” Acheampong said, and she is excited to see what he’s bringing and what new initiatives and plans he has for CMU.

Carolina Herandez, the president of SGA, is excited to welcome MacKinnon to the CMU community and see what new ideas and perspectives he will bring. Especially, since the board of trustees picked him, because they knew he would be a good choice with his years of prior experience.

Herandez knows firsthand what it is like to be a new president and encourages students to be empathic towards him and understand that it will take time for him to adjust to this new role, especially with the timing of starting in the middle of the semester, which will help set the foundation of CMU’s relationship with him.

SGA is planning on inviting him to one of its future meetings for the student body to be able to meet him. They also hope to host a town hall with him later this semester to hear about his opinions and plans he has for the University.
