April 6, 2016 Student Styles, Style, Style How To: Wear Fun and Flirty Spring Skirts It’s finally time to ditch the winter gear and bring out the skirts because spring has sprung! (Or at least so we thought before this morning). Skirts are a versatile piece of clothing to ease into the warm weather. Here’s some way to integrate them into your wardrobe. The Mini Skirt Dress it up Pairing your mini skirt with heels will make your legs seem as if they go on for days. Since long legs are the biggest statement with this look, adding a tiny crop top is a major don’t. A subtle, off-the-shoulder shirt is a perfect way to accentuate your top half and keep the focus on your legs. Dress it down A classic style with a mini skirt is a band T-shirt, a pair of sneakers or booties and a jacket. This creates an edgy look. Adding tights to the mini skirt is a way to create a more business professional look or to just keep your legs warm. The Midi Skirt Dress it up This skirt style is work appropriate when paired with a blouse or blazer, and heels. Wearing different prints and bright colors can be a fun way to spice up your work wardrobe in the spring. Dress it down The midi skirt can be worn with any type of shirt from crop tops to tucked in shirts and a pair of booties or wedges when you are aiming for a more casual look. Considering the length of this skirt, wearing a shoe with a heel or wedge is more flattering. The Maxi Skirt Dress it up To polish up your maxi skirt, wear it with a tucked in button down shirt and a pair of heels or pointed-toe flats. Pointed-toe flats give your outfit a more sophisticated look compared to ballet flats, and were seen many times down the runway this season. Dress it down Wearing a maxi skirt with a crop top (fitted or flowy) and a pair of sandals is appropriate to wear just about anywhere, especially when going from class to date night. The maxi skirt is so versatile when it comes to dressing it up or down, however, it is important to define your waist, because it can get lost in the skirt. Achieve this accentuation by wearing a shirt that highlights your waist or adding a belt in the mix. GC Tip: When adding accessories to your outfit, remember – less is more! No need to go overboard when your outfit is already fabulous. Also, it is okay to break the rules when it comes to mixing prints sometimes. You just have to be smart about it.
