The 2016 Superhero Movie Line Up

If you generally don’t consider yourself a nerd, you may not be aware of the box office domination that will be taking place over the course of 2016. During the course of this year, cinematic products of both DC and Marvel Comics will be released.

Marvel Releases

From Marvel, the following movies have been scheduled for release: “Captain America: Civil War,” “Deadpool,” “Doctor Strange,” “Gambit” and “X-Men Apocalypse.”

DC  Releases

DC announced only two movies this year: “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” yet these movies have many people going beyond the normal levels of excitement that comes with the superhero fandoms.

Whether support goes to Marvel or DC, the students of Central Michigan University have voiced their excitement toward this rise in the superhero movie franchise.

Top Picks

The top choice for 2016 is “Deadpool,” which stars Ryan Reynolds as the well-known “merch with the mouth.”

Deadpool is a mercenary who signs up for the Weapon X program, where he is subjected to treatments that give him awesome powers and drive him crazy. In “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Reynolds played a corporate-generated version of Deadpool that caused disgust for most fans of the character as his mouth was sewn shut.

Eight years later, after the popularity of leaked test shots of the subsequent movie, the official trailer was released causing excitement over what most describe as a more true portrayal of “Deadpool.”

This movie is one of the few superhero movies to be rated R, which ensures an abundance of violence, explicit language and sexual innuendos, along with Deadpool’s ever present habit of smashing the fourth wall.

Another top choice is “Captain America: Civil War,” which while further displaying Chis Evan’s talented performance as the patriotic superhero, also showcases a long list of both new and old superhero characters including: Iron Man, Black Widow, Winter Solider, Falcon, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vison, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man and Spiderman.

This movie follows Captain America after the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in which the heroes are forced under strict government regulations. This causes internal fighting between Captain America and Iron Man, as well as other heroes with the added conflict of another villainous force. While the incredible hero cast is causing a lot of excitement, one of the most exciting aspects of the cast is the inclusion of the first major black superhero, Black Panther, and the inclusion of a Marvel version of Spiderman. This superhero movie, while creating a lot buzz with its large and diverse cast, also pushes the Marvel cinematic universe forward through the comics.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is another largely atnticipated movie. This will follow Superman and Batman after the initial damage that was caused in “Man of Steel.” Batman and Superman violently express their distrust in one another until an unknown threat, created by Lex Luthor, causes them to work together with Wonder Woman in order to save the world.

While this movie is definitely a popular pick, many are skeptical due to DC’s history of mediocre movies. However the epic cast and build up to the Justice League makes this movie worth watching.

Whether you like hero movies or not, these movies will most likely have a cultural impact on the franchise. Each movie brings something new to the table and provides fans with an insane amount of excitement, making for an interesting year.
