October 26, 2010 Uncategorized Your Chips: Tammy Long Freshman midfielder Tammy Long finds and creates ways to help Central win games, even when it doesn't show up on the stat sheet at the end of the game. Courtesy of cmuchippewas.com Tammy Long is the type of player that will get anything done to help her team win the game. The freshman midfielder had a very successful playing career at Flushing high school before coming to Central Michigan University. Long finds and creates ways to help Central win games, even when it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet at the end of the game. Central defeated arch-rival Western Michigan University in a very physical and defensive minded match, both teams were scoreless at the half, 1-0. Long played a very important role in the victory by playing great physical minded defense, helping Central win the game and holding the Broncos scoreless. When two teams play that aren’t very fond of each other, fireworks are certain to fly. Western was out to do anything to win, and Central answered the call. “We did a good job on not getting carried away with the physicality,” Long said. “We handled ourselves very well.” It was no surprise to Long or the rest of Central’s team that the game was a lot more physical than usual. “Western is a rival, with every rivalry there is a lot of passion and emotion involved,” Long said. Long said the team and she personally still have room for improvement even as the end of the season approaches. “I think that we are very well at possessing the ball but we could have done a lot better today,” Long said. “We just need to keep striving to get better each time out there.” Long is very talented, relying on defensive skills and athleticism on the defensive side of the ball. Despite her strengths on defense, she needs to improve on her distribution on offense and minimize turnovers. “I gave the ball to the wrong team a couple of times out there today,” Long said It is going to take continued strong play from role players like Tammy Long to help the Chippewas claim the Mid-American Conference championship for the second straight year. Central is in the final stretch of their season and has not lost a game in the conference to date.
