January 26, 2015 Drinks, Drinks Craft Beer of the Week: Evil Urges What dark evil lurks in the hearts of felines that would drive them to go from being adorable puffs of fur to wicked mischief-makers? Cat owners throughout the centuries have been pondering this question and have yet to agree on a solid answer. Michigan’s own institution of delectable brews, Short’s Brewery, has brewed and bottled its own answer in the way it knows best — Evil Urges. Evil Urges, a dark Belgian ale, has a surprisingly sweet taste not seen in many other ales that wakes the taste buds and leaves them craving more. The sweet flavor comes from the candi sugar used in the brewing process; making the beer sweet, but not in an overpowering way. Don’t let the sweet flavor lead you to believe Evil Urges is a light brew made for weaker pallets. Its 8.4 percent alcohol by volume content clearly shows this brew’s demand to be taken seriously and enjoyed in moderation. You don’t have to be a cat lover to enjoy Evil Urges. But after a few sips, you might just understand why they like to freak out at 2 a.m.
