November 1, 2011 Campus Fashion, Style, Style, Trend and Beauty Five handbags every college girl should have The clothes don’t make a woman, but the right handbag sure can. The clothes don’t make a woman, but the right handbag sure can. Transforming preppy into bohemian or simply polishing off a fabulous evening ensemble, handbags are the icing on the cake to achieve sweet style. What should a girl look for in the quintessential purse? The two top vote-getters: practicality and the wow factor! I’ve rummaged through my handbag collections and narrowed down five must-have handbags for every college girl. Tote bags are a fantastic option for class if you spurn the backpack. Invest in a high quality tote bag guaranteed to hold up all four or five years you’re in school. There’s nothing more annoying than straps fraying or holes forming in a bag. Spending extra money on a well-crafted tote will pay off in the long run. Totes are multipurpose — from school to running errands, shopping therapy trips, and even job interviews. By choosing a color or style that is classic and versatile this handbag can be your go-to for all occasions. An evening clutch may not be your everyday handbag but it’s an indispensable accessory. No one wants to don a darling dress with killer heels and have no evening bag to complement the smokin’ outfit. If your wardrobe consists of mostly black and simple special occasion looks, experiment with fashion fun adding a leopard clutch. If wild frocks and over-the-top garments fill your closet, snap up a basic clutch in any neutral. Again, never limited yourself to just one clutch, but for starters stick with this rule of thumb. The leather satchel — my all time favorite bag: Leather handbags add that instant cool factor to any outfit. No matter if you opt for a style that is preppy, rocker, bohemian, uber-feminine — a leather satchel adds effortless flare that can either complement or juxtapose your look. The crossbody has been in for several seasons now and seems to have staying power. This hands-free style is perfect for weekends. The wild card bag. Every girl needs that unexpected, impractical bag to spice up her college life! Be it a dainty velvet boxy bag or a ‘70s fringe satchel, a statement purse can take your style to the next level. What’s your wild card bag?
