I love eye shadow as much as the next girl and if you’re anything like me you hate having to rummage through your makeup bag to find all the shades you’re looking for. Single eye shadows are great, but can be inconvenient for travel and can clutter your vanity. That is why I love eye shadow palettes. They contain an array of shades in one sleek and portable case making the color you‘re looking for a breeze.

I am a makeup addict. I’ve tried every makeup brand out there and have collected dozens of palettes over the years. Everything from Urban Decay, Benefit, Clinique, MAC and Chanel can be found in my collection. Don’t get me wrong, I love my department store palettes, but most of them only contain around ten shadows each. Even worse is the price which can start anywhere from $40 up to $100.

So what‘s a girl to do? Well, you could fork over the cash for a pricey designer palette, or you can get one of Coastal Scents eye shadow palettes.

Coastal Scents may not sound like a familiar brand to most, but they have become one of the most talked about cosmetics brands in the online beauty community because they offer superior quality makeup at affordable prices. Each palette price ranges from $18 to $25,which is unheard of for quality eye shadows. Trust me, this is one of my most used palettes in my collection.

My Coastal Scents palette consistently performs just as well as my MAC shadows in terms of both pigmentation and staying power. These palettes contain five times as much variety as one MAC palette at a fourth of the price.

Each Coastal Scents palette contains 88 pigmented and easy to blend shades. I’ve had my palette for just over five months and I’m still finding new ways to wear my eye shadow. The shades are so beautiful in the pan and even more vibrant when you apply the color on your lid.

The best part is they come in a variety of different combinations and finishes depending on your style of makeup. Their three most popular: 88 Original Palette, 88 Ultra Shimmer Palette and 88 Warm Palette.

The Original Palette features every color on the rainbow and more in a pigmented matte finish. The Ultra Shimmer Palette features the same hues as the original, but in a shimmer finish. The Warm Palette has a wide range of wearable nudes and soft colors that are perfect for smoky and neutral looks.

Central Michigan University senior Katie Boczar uses and loves the 88 Ultra Shimmer Palette.

“I’ve had my palette now for a year and I still use it on a regular basis,” Boczar said. “No matter what the occasion is I never have to worry about my makeup because I have my Coastal Scents palette.”

While all these palettes are great, my favorite is the Warm Palette. This palette has soft colors that make it easy to create anything from natural, everyday looks, to dramatic smoky eyes. Even though the shadows are easy to work with, having 88 shadows all in one place can be overwhelming. So here are a few tips to help you get started with your 88 palette:

1. Pick two shades in the same color family–one light and one dark. Place the light color on your lid and run the darker shade through your crease and viola, an easy dimensional look.

2. Choose your colors wisely. If you’re looking for a natural look, pick softer and neutral browns. If you want a more dramatic, or smoky look, blend together darker grays and blacks.

3. Use both shimmer and matte finishes.  This is one of my favorite tricks for creating a more interesting look. I like to use lighter champagne colors on my lid and matte dark browns in the crease to add more depth to my eyes.

4. Have fun. If all else fails just keep playing with the shadows until you find something you like.  Makeup should be fun and experimenting with different colors is the best way to figure out what works for you.
