Burgers and french fries and shakes: Oh My!

Being new in town can have its pitfalls, but for Oh My Burgers and Fries it seems to only have an upside. Oh My Burgers and Fries is located at 1501 S. Mission Street, and since the day it opened this new fast food joint has been busy with lines of cars wrapped around the corner. This might have to do in part with the fact that they only give patrons the option of getting food to go, but it’s also because the food is great.

Oh My is a throwback to old-school burger joints with its bright teal accents and pop art that resembles the 1960s. The attire the workers wear is also a reminder of yesteryear with the pressed white uniforms and the knitted hair nets the women employees wear.

Prices are very affordable as well and that could remind anybody of a time that has come and gone. Patrons are greeted with a very cheerful voice as soon as they pull up to order and once pulling up to the window the good service only continues.

Some things do separate this fast food restaurant from others and that is that all of their food is cooked fresh on-site and doesn’t come processed or in a package. According to their website, the burgers are made from 100 percent beef chuck everyday in the store and their fries are made from Idaho russet potatoes that are cooked on-site as well.

Turkey burgers and veggie burgers are also on the menu, which puts them in a league of their own when it comes to fast food. Combo meals range from $4.15 to $5.95 and a burger by itself without cheese costs $1.70, which is very affordable. Milkshakes come in a variety of flavors including: vanilla, Belgian chocolate, caramel, strawberry, blueberry, and tart cherry. These delicious milkshakes cost $1.95.

The veggie burger option really sets this place apart from fast food chains like McDonald’s or Burger King. The meal includes a veggie burger with cheese and fries with pop or tea included. The veggie burger comes with a cilantro mayo that adds just the right amount of flavor. The whole wheat bun adds to the freshness of the burger.

The fries were good, but a little too salty. Milkshakes were by far the best addition to a meal, with the fresh ice cream and the chunks of real fruit in the bottom of each one.

“I thought it was delicious and succulent. It’s hard to find a good turkey burger on campus and everything was really fresh and the whole wheat bun was very flavorful,” Amy Shereda, a psychology junior, said. “Besides the fact that they forgot my Diet Coke, the service was good and everybody seemed happy to be working (there).”

Oh My Burgers and Fries was a delicious alternative to fast food and it really lived up to the hype around town. Everybody should try it at least once to see for themselves how good it is.
