Do you Dare Try these Unique Food Combos?

How does a big bite into an oozing mess of creamy, sticky, sweetness sandwiched between two slices of soft bread sound? What if we add some fruitful goodness and balance the sugar with a layer of saltiness?

Can you guess what it is? Yes, it’s a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a berry Pop-Tart and layer of pickles.

These components craft an oddly sounding, yet delicious sandwich. And after asking students what their craziest and, surprisingly enough, appetizing food combinations are, we found that layers of salty and sweet, or savory and spicy are always clear winners.

Take a look at the top five odd, but delicious food combinations.

1. Berry Pop-Tarts and pickles atop a peanut butter and jelly sandwich

With the sugar from the Berry Pop-Tarts and the salt from the pickles, mixed with the traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwich taste, this combination makes for something completely unheard of, or ever tasted. But, it’s one blend that must be tried.

2. Bacon wrapped bananas

Do you have a sweet and salty craving? Indulge your urge by wrapping thick slices of bacon around quartered banana bites. Cook these in a skillet for a nice crunchy texture on the outside.

3. Dates, arugula and Gouda cheese simmered in balsamic vinegar

With sweetness from the dates, bitterness from the arugula and creaminess from Gouda cheese, this combination is a clear winner if you’re into trying dynamic and savory dishes.

These ingredients pair well with a glass of red wine.

4. Pineapple-habenero popsicles

A sweet treat in every bite, literally. This combination will rub your sweet tooth right with pineapple, and then next thing you know, the habenero gives your tongue a blazing sensation for your taste buds.

Don’t worry, the brisk intensity of the popsicle will cool your mouth almost concurrently.

5. Pizza Rolls dipped in syrup

Do you ever open the fridge, close it and repeat, thinking maybe something appetizing will magically appear? Truth is, nothing is going to pop up. But, maybe the problem is that you just aren’t being creative enough with the foods you actually have.

Try pizza rolls dipped in syrup. The savory sauce inside the pizza roll mixed with the sweetness of syrup is a combination you can’t ignore.
