March 2, 2025 Arts & Entertainment, Campus, College Life, Events, Events, People, Students Families Bond at Sibs and Kids Weekend Story by: Mark Hoover Central Michigan University held their annual ‘Sibs and Kids Weekend’ on Friday, Feb 28 to Saturday, March 1, 2025. The tradition takes place on the second weekend in February and brings hundreds of siblings to CMU’s campus. Students have the opportunity to let their siblings or family members stay with them in their dorm, or off campus, where they get to experience a little bit of the college life. The Office of Student Life, in collaboration with the Student Government Association, plans and organizes different activities for the weekend. Once ideas are brainstormed between the committees, they are then brought up to the event coordinators to start the planning process. Event Coordinator, Kat Allmacher said they have been planning this event since last fall. This year’s theme was spy related, with activities like ‘Double Agent Dodgeball’, ‘Spy Kids Movie Showing’ and a ‘Mission: Impossible Fun Carnival’. There were also special events that students could sign up for in advance, such as bowling, rock climbing, ice-skating, watching a movie in the pool and hot tub, trampoline park, silent disco, and much more. “It’s a nice opportunity for me to spend some time with my sister because we live down in Kalamazoo, so it’s a bit of a drive,” freshman Donald Kinney said. Kinney’s 10-year-old sister Makayla Kinney visited for the weekend. He showed her around campus, including places to go, places to eat, and some of his favorite spots to study. Together, they saw a magician and balloon artist, John Cassidy, who performed at Plachta Auditorium the first night, and got to play a CMU version of Clue, which they got to take home. “It’s really cool we got to take that home,” Kinney said. The pair went to the ‘Mission: Impossible Fun Carnival’ on the last day where there was cornhole, free food, inflatable axe throwing, a silent disco, laser tag and more. “I don’t go home every weekend,” Kinney said. “I go home occasionally, but it’s just a nice time to spend some time with my sister and have fun doing it.”
