A community skating event was held by Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates (SAPA) from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., at Martin Ice Arena, on Thursday, January 3.

Offering a $10 admission fee for students and the general public, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to skate while listening to music and socializing with friends.

SAPA is a survivor-centered and trauma-informed, paraprofessional student organization that serves those affected by sexual aggression through 24/7 services during fall and spring semesters, including a confidential support line and direct, in-person services.

Services are available to CMU students, faculty, staff and the community.

“I love this event because it brings people from all over the community, not just people at CMU, so other people can support SAPA,” SAPA Advocate Ciaira Pope said.

Pope said they were able to raise about $1,000 at this event.

“We are raising money for a good cause,” she said.

CMU student, Jesse Afraid of Hawk, said this was the first time she had attended this kind of event.

“This was my first-time ice skating,” she said. “It was really fun; I definitely would want to come again.”
