January 18, 2016 Students Photo Story: Martin Luther King Jr. Campus March Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is widely known as “the day we get school off,” but for students at Central Michigan University, the day is filled with events that encourage Dr. King’s beliefs and continue to spread awareness on his work and the idea of peace and equality. Students at CMU, members of the Isabella County community, family and friends gathered to peacefully remember Dr. King and to express that equality is a team effort and that justice is necessary everywhere. The day began with a CommUnity Brunch and flowed into volunteer opportunities for students. There were several different types of service that students could contribute to, such as creating posters for the CommUnity march on campus, or creating care packages. Students volunteer for MLK Day of service by doing various service activities and creating posters for the march on the campus of Central Michigan University on Jan. 18, 2016. The march began at the Bovee University Center and traveled throughout the campus and the city of Mount Pleasant. Students carried signs depicting quotes from Dr. King or other quotes related to peace and equality.
