March 4, 2011 Style Spring trends to look out for in 2011 From the runway to Mount Pleasant, check out the latest 2011 spring fashion trends and use these tips to shop stylishly right here in town. Big floral prints, light flowing fabrics and ruffles are some of the hot spring trends that walked down the runway for the 2011 Fashion Week. Hundreds of designers had models strutting their stuff this past month in New York as fashion scouts kept a look out for this year’s spring looks. Even though New York is labeled as one of the fashion resources of the world, you don’t have to travel there to update your look. Marketing senior and Maurices employee Terra Werner said she is looking forward to sporting nautical themed apparel this spring. Red, white and blue items and anchor patterns are on the top of her list. As far as searching for these looks in the Mount Pleasant area, Werner suggests Maurices, 2221 South Mission Street, and T.J. Maxx, 4216 East Blue Grass Road. “T.J. Max is always a steal,” Werner said. Werner is also excited to search for clothing items that entail ruffles, resort themes, light pinks and pastels. Along with nautical inspired pieces, preppy pastels are in high demand this spring. Spring collections from both Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger also include pastels and country club attire with a touch of simplicity to give you a fresh, clean and stylish look. Journalism junior Sam Wuerfel is looking forward to sporting pastel colors this spring as well. Wuerfel is most looking forward to pastel colored, high-waisted shorts. While she prefers to shop at Urban Outfitters, Maurices, T.J. Maxx and Target, 4097 East Blue Grass Road, are a few local stores Wuefel plans to visit to look for new spring items. “Target has some cute stuff out,” Wuefel said. According to an article on glamour.com titled “Spring 2011’s Most Wearable Fashion Trends”, there are sixteen main fashion trends to follow this spring. These sixteen must-haves include military(ish) jackets, high-waisted flare jeans, happy prints, trench dresses and sheer layers. No matter what your style, there are plenty of spring 2011 trends to choose from. This spring it is simple to shop locally and still achieve high fashion outfits. Take a look around your home town in boutiques and resale stores for a statement piece or check out clothing stores in the Mount Pleasant area to snag a cute cover up for that spring break trip you are taking. Looking to designers and fashion magazines is a great way to keep up on the latest looks, but shopping locally will leave you looking smart and trendy.
