Types of Study Abroad Programs:
CMU provides several types of programs tailored to fit the academic and personal needs of their students:

· Study Programs at Partner Institutions: Students can enroll in a partner institution abroad for anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks during the summer, or for a semester or full academic year.

· Exchange Partners: Special agreements with partner universities allow students to participate in exchange programs, where they pay CMU tuition, making it one of the more affordable options.

· Short-Term Programs Led by CMU Faculty: These programs are perfect for students looking for shorter commitments. Led by CMU faculty, these trips typically take place over the summer or during spring break and range from 1 to 8 weeks.

· International Internships: The Office of Study Abroad helps connect students with organizations that offer internships for academic credit, with housing included in the program fee. Students work with both their Study Abroad and faculty advisors to ensure the internship aligns with their academic goals.

Financial Aid for Study Abroad: One of the major concerns for students considering study abroad is the cost, but CMU has numerous financial aid options available. Students can apply for scholarships, grants, and loans specifically for study abroad programs.

CMU Study Abroad Scholarships: CMU offers several scholarships based on program duration and financial need, ranging from $250 for short-term programs to $4,000 for semester or academic year study abroad.

National Scholarships:

· Programs like the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Gilman-McCain Scholarship offer substantial awards for Pell Grant recipients and dependents of active duty military members, while region-specific options like the Bridging Scholarship for Japan and BUTEX Scholarships cater to those studying in Japan and the UK.

· Post-Graduation and Graduate Scholarships:

· Graduating seniors or graduate students can apply for prestigious scholarships like the Fulbright U.S. Student Program or Boren Fellowships, which support advanced research and language study abroad.
