March 13, 2012 Community, Students Emerald City: Mount Pleasant goes green for St. Patrick’s Day It’s no surprise that right after spring break, most college students get pumped up for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17. From Green Beer to dressing up, students across the country like to go all out on this fun holiday. This year, Saint Patty’s happens to be on a Saturday. If you are around Mount Pleasant this weekend, here are a few holiday specials offered around town. O’ Kelley’s Sports Bar and Grill- O’Kelley’s, located at South Mission and East Broomfield streets, will be hosting its annual “Legendary St. Patrick’s Day Bash.” The festivities start at 9 a.m. and last all day. Serving green beer and playing lots of Irish music, O’Kelley’s is going to be one very festive party spot. They will even be serving up “Green Eggs and Ham” for breakfast with drinks, music, and a bean bag toss in an outdoor tented area. The L1 Bar and Grille- The famous “Miss St. Patty’s Day” party is here this Saturday. Prices to attend are $3 for ladies and $5 for men after 10 p.m., along with a few drink specials such as $2 Irish Whiskey, $4 Irish Car Bombs and green beer. Ladies, pull out your best green outfit because the best dressed woman will receive a free VIP ticket to CMU’s Wet and Wild Foam Bash on April 14. Bennigan’s- Bennigan’s has a weekend-long celebration for St. Patrick ’s Day beginning on Friday, March 16. Located on South Mission street, the restaurant will be having live entertainment and activities such as a beer pong tournament and a special food menu. On Friday, the band Redolance will perform from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sound Productions will hit the stage on St. Patrick’s Day. Last but not least, Bennigan’s is raffling off a chance to win a two-person trip to Chicago or a “pub in a box” valued at $2500. Green beer will be on tap as well! Ruby Tuesday- If you are feeling up to dinner or lunch on Saturday, consider going to Ruby Tuesday, located at 1023 E. Pickard St. From $5 Absolutes to $1 glasses of wine, there are a lot of specials being offered here, including $5 Appetizers, $2 bottles of Miller Light, and $4 Cuervo Margarita’s! Just looking to kick back with a drink and some music? Check out the Blue Gator, located at Court street and East Broadway. The pub will be serving green beer and its famous leprechaun shots. The Blackstone Bar opens at noon and will be serving green beer and Jell-O shots. It is located at 212 W. Michigan St.
