Central Michigan University’s Program Board’s Glam and Go event on Thursday, November 21, had many that showed up. The first to arrive, before supplies run out, got to decorate a makeup bag and snag free goodies: a mini mirror, lip gloss, beauty blender, and headband. Director for the program board, Oyu Baljinyam, said she got the idea of throwing this event because she always had a strong interest in makeup and beauty growing up. “I just like the process of doing makeup, and I thought I’m sure other students on campus would also love the beauty related stuff,” she said. “The purpose of this event is to celebrate and embrace femininity. I’m not saying makeup doesn’t always have to be feminine, it’s also inclusive. There is this stereotype or stigma that makeup or anything about your looks is considered vain. Growing up I wouldn’t say I had shame, but it’s important to embrace it.” Those who attended the event thought it was a good stress reliever. “I think it was very fun, very cute,” sophomore Davenie Blackwell said. “I got to speak with girls I don’t see during the week. It had a bigger turn out than I expected but everyone seemed to enjoy it.” For graduate student Noor Ul Basar, said this was the first event she has attended on campus. “It was so good,” she said.” “I’m getting so bored at home, and I came here this morning and have not left campus yet.” With the great turn out, the program board is thinking about holding this event again. “I’m actually surprised [at the amount of people that showed up] and I’m happy,” Baljinnyam said. “I might want to do it next semester too.” With its success, Glam and Go became a space for connection and creativity. The program board is now considering bringing it back next semester, giving students more chances to embrace their inner glam.
