December 23, 2014 Student Styles, Style How to: Dress for every holiday event The holiday season is a fun-filled time of family, friends, food and giving gifts. With a full agenda and a college student budget, what’s a girl to wear to her various holiday festivities? Take the stress out of outfit planning by using these style tips that work for every holiday event you’re attending this year. The best part? They won’t break the bank. The Family Gathering Energetic and spirited or quiet and cozy, a classic look can be inexpensive for a get together with the family. Skinny or straight leg jeans can easily be dressed up or made to look casual and are a staple in every girl’s closet. Pair the bottoms with a comfortable sweater and festive scarf for a simple, yet classy look that will guarantee compliments from the family. (Photo | Colleen Dluzynski) The Ugly Sweater Party No loud, circa 1993, colorful sweater hanging in the closets of the adults in your life? No worries. Head to your nearest thrift store to find a sweater that will fit the look of this popular holiday-themed party. These sweaters range from subtle snowflakes to embroidered reindeers – antlers and all. Feeling creative and already own a plain sweater? Head to the craft store and purchase inexpensive, colorful bells. Grab some safety pins, fill the front of the sweater with the bells and jingle-all-the-way to the party! Don’t worry how “ugly” or obnoxious your sweater might be – at these parties, the uglier the better. Plus, this cost-efficient buy can be altered and used for ugly sweater parties in the future. The Girl’s Night Out If you haven’t seen your friends from home all semester because you were bogged down with school work, you’ve got to dress to impress. Pair black or blue skinny jeans with your favorite blazer and a fun tank top. Dress up the outfit with your favorite pair of matching pumps. Start with a skater skirt. It can be solid-colored, striped or sparkly for a little bit of pizazz. Throw on solid-colored tights under the skirt for a classy and slightly warmer touch. On top, a three-quarter sleeve blouse that’s tucked into the skirt keeps the look cute but also classic. Tie the look together with silver or gold accessories and cute flats and you’ll be ready to enjoy the season with your coworkers. (Photo | Colleen Dluzynski)
