January 26, 2016 Drinks, Food, Recipes Mini Microwave Mug Meals in Minutes Do you ever miss making decent food from the comfort of your own home? Does home now look like you and three other people, a TV and a microwave? Do you have a mug (or 10) lying around your dorm room? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then you, my friend are in luck – and probably live in the dorm. With a single mug and microwave, you can make a meal in less than 10 minutes with less than five ingredients. If you’re ever in a hurry and running late to class without time to stop into the caf (we have all been there), then with the help of a portable, microwave-safe mug, you can take your meal to-go. Try one of the recipes that cover breakfast, lunch or dinner, but don’t forget dessert! One Minute Mug Omelette Finally, an omelette that doesn’t require flipping. If you want to make a quick breakfast, then this one minute mug omelette is for you. Ingredients: 2 Eggs 1 tablespoon of milk Diced vegetables of your choosing (we recommend bell peppers, onions or spinach) Recipe: First, spray non-stick cooking spray into a mug. Next, crack two eggs into the mug and add the tablespoon of milk. Whisk with a fork until the egg and milk are well combined. Add in your vegetables. Place the mug into the microwave and cook for about a minute. You may need more or less cooking time depending on your microwave’s strength. The omelette is done once the eggs are completely set and not runny. We recommend a sprinkle of cheese, a dollop of salsa or a quick hit of hot sauce. Mug Mac and Cheese This classic comfort food can be made in your dorm (and beats any boxed mix). Ingredients: 1/3 cup of pasta 1/2 cup of water 1/4 cup of milk 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese Recipe: Begin by mixing the pasta and the water into a mug. Microwave for about two minutes, then remove to stir the pasta. Place back in the microwave for another three minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the water is absorbed. After the pasta is cooked, pour in the milk and cheese, then microwave for one more minute. And just like that, you have homemade mac and cheese. If you like it hot, add in some pepper or Sriracha. Microwave Mug Cake This recipe is a piece of cake (pun intended). Ingredients: 2/3 cup of complete pancake mix (Hungry Jack is recommended for this) Water (no exact measurement) Optional add-ins: chocolate chips, peanut butter, candy and berries. Recipe: First, put the pancake mix into a mug, then gradually add small amounts of water. Be sure to stir with a fork between intervals. Do this until the batter has a slightly runny consistency. Next, put in any of the optional add-ins and stir them. Microwave the mug cake for one minute and you have yourself a cake!
