Sydney Theiler is a Junior at Central Michigan University majoring in Fashion Merchandising and has had a love of fashion for as long as she can imagine.

From walking in Threads as a model her Freshman year to being on the PR team for the fashion show her Sophomore year, Theiler is no stranger to the production that goes into creating fashion shows. This year, she was chosen to be one of three producers for the Threads Fashion Show. This has already presented her with many incredible opportunities, including the once-in-a-lifetime chance of going to New York Fashion Week.

Since she was a little girl Theiler has dreamt of going to New York Fashion Week. Whether it be in the crowd, walking the runway, or backstage, Theiler was determined to make this dream come true. With the help of the CMU fashion program, her dream became a reality.

Professor Ian Mull has been taking the producers of Threads to NYFW for many years, however, this year was the first time students had this opportunity since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

While at New York Fashion Week, Theiler and two other CMU students worked with Barbara Berman. Berman is the owner of BB’s Backstage, a professional dressing company that has helped dress the models that walk at New York Fashion Week for many years.

Through this company, Theiler had the opportunity of lifetime dressing models for shows like Fendi, PatBO, and Badgley Mischka, and was even backstage with many A-list models.

Theiler described this experience as “the best experience of her life” and is still soaking in the surreal feeling of being backstage at THE NYFW.

One of the biggest takeaways Theiler took from her experience in New York was the level of professionalism her and other CMU students were prepared with because of their time with The Threads Fashion Show. She credits Threads for preparing her for this experience.

“I am really inspired to make Threads fashion show the best it has ever been, it is our 25th anniversary, so we are all really excited for the show”

It is opportunities like this, that make the fashion program at CMU one of a kind.
