6 Ways to Switch up Your Workout

Story & Infographic by Devon Rademacher

We’ve all been stuck in a ‘workout rut’ before. You’ve been hitting the gym, doing the same moves and not seeing any more results. Or, you have to go for longer to even feel you’ve burned off calories.

That’s why it’s so important to switch up your routine from time to time. Here in Mount Pleasant, and even on campus, there are multiple ways for you to give your body a wake up.

Try Yoga

Mount Pleasant Hot Yoga offers heated yoga, barre, and HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes. These not only give you a good cardio blast – but the heat makes you more flexible and is a good heart workout. They offer $5 – $10 drop-ins, and package deals for Central Michigan University students.

Redbloom Yoga offers aerial and inversion classes for those looking for more of an advanced yoga challenge. Redbloom also offers discounted packages and drop-ins for college students.

Try Swimming

Swimming, in the cold? Yes! The Student Activity Center’s large pool has open swim time for most of the day. Swimming is a good way to work every muscle in the body and get your heart rate up quickly. The hot tub and sauna are just a bonus to the time you put in at the pool.

Try Crossfit

Crossfit has become a popular way to workout in the past few years. Mount Pleasant has it’s own Crossfit gym, Crossfit Worthy. The workout practice is a good way to build strength and endurance, while meeting people that push you to do your best.

Try Kickboxing

If you’re looking to really amp up your routine, give kickboxing a try. The whole body workout is great for learning self-defense and feeling like an overall badass. MP Fit Club offers kickboxing classes, along with kick & sculpt and turbo kick.

Try a Bootcamp

Fusion Fitness and Bootcamp is a group fitness camp with kettlebell, rowing and TRX classes. In addition to being the only rowing studio in Central Michigan, you can choose whether you want to be in the bootcamp for the whole two months, or class by class.

Try an Intramural Sport

Flag football, volleyball, and dodgeball among others can be played through CMU Intramural Sports. It’s a good way to mingle with friends and get to known new people, while also getting a workout in. You won’t even notice you’ll be having so much fun.
