October 28, 2014 Style Adios, Oscar: Goodbye to a fashion icon The world got a little less fabulous on Oct. 20 when fashion icon Oscar de la Renta died. You can’t watch a red carpet event without hearing the famous Spanish name, specifically when talking about what designer clothes celebrities are wearing. From now on, red carpets will be a bit different with the passing of this legend. While it’s safe to assume many celebrities will continue wearing his designs, it will be with a heavy heart. And one thing’s for sure: Peter Copping has some big shoes to fill. Grand Central decided to look back at some of his iconic dresses. 5. Jessica Chastain – 2014 Deauville American Film Festival This hot pink frock turned heads – and for good reason. Chastain looked flawless in this dress and her bright smile helped pull the look together. 4. Emma Watson – 2011 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere This gown was a great choice for Watson. Since she grew up in the spotlight, this dress helped pull her “grown up” look together. The ruffled bottom was a risk, but it added a playful side that Watson easily pulled off. 3. Lea Michele – 2011 Golden Globes The dramatic train and ruffles on this dress added a glamorous touch to the look, while the soft pink color helped make Michele youthful and playful. 2. Zooey Deschanel – 2013 Golden Globes No one designs a classic dress quite like Oscar did. This simple design was so beautiful, it barely needed any accessories to help it stand out. 1. Sarah Jessica Parker – 2014 Met Gala Once your name is on the back of a dress worn by an A-list celebrity, it’s safe to say you made it. Parker looked stunning in this gown at the Met Gala and proudly showed the audience who designed it.
