March 25, 2014 Arts & Entertainment Earsnag: “All of Me” by John Legend I know, I know. How utterly cliché of me to select a Top 10 iTunes song for this week’s Earsnag. But I think — before rage fills your belly and you exit the tab in vehement vexation — you should consider the rest of the songs I’ve chosen for this column. Most of them were not completely conventional, right? Cut me a little slack. Plus, I have good reason for choosing “All of Me” by John Legend. I mean, have you heard it? Even the toughest hard-ass on the market, the one who thinks love is just a fictional and invented emotion, would melt at the lyrics. “’Cause all of me, loves all of you. Love your curves and all your edges. All your perfect imperfections.” The combination of what Legend is crooning and how he croons it (heartfelt, powerful, rumbling) is enough to make a person sigh and place a hand over his heart. Make no mistake, I said “his” — I know every man secretly loves this song, too. “How many times do I have to tell you? Even when you’re crying, you’re beautiful too.” Not to mention, not all of the lyrics are super-sweetened syrup. Legend explores the authentic qualities he loves most about his spouse (the visually stunning Christine Teigen). “What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in, and you kicking me out. You’ve got my head spinning, no kidding, I can’t pin you down. What’s going on in that beautiful mind?” “All of Me” is undoubtedly one of the best romantic tracks I’ve ever heard for a number of reasons. One, Legend’s candid sincerity and two, the music video. GCMag has provided it below, so watch it. It can’t get more swoon-worthy than this, seriously. Plus, Teigen is the star of the show (awe). OK, yeah. I’m a puddle. But you’re in denial if you believe “All of Me” won’t liquefy your insides, too. Legend has lived up to his namesake and softened up the inner Red Forman in all of us, and that’s okay. Check out John Legend’s album, Love In the Future, available on iTunes.
