October 5, 2022 Student Lifestyle Hot girls walk Mount Pleasant Story by: Izzie Pasciolla Photos by: Maddie Lajewski Hot Girl Walks is a trend overtaking the country. Started in early 2021 by Tiktok user @exactlyliketheothergirls, it began as a way to focus on “what you’re grateful for, your goals and how you’re going to achieve them, and, most importantly, how hot you are.” Eventually the Hot Girl Walk evolved into a group outing when women realized not only the danger of walking alone in a city, but also the positive impact of socialization after the COVID pandemic. Many college campuses have formed Hot Girl Walks groups and as of fall 2022, CMU has been added to that list. Bekah Henry formed the walking club this semester after her friend joined Hot Girls Walk GR (Grand Rapids). “I really feel like Mount Pleasant kind of needs something for people to just come walk together,” she said. “I love walking and it’s sometimes scary, especially in college towns and on trails and all of that.” Hot Girls Walk Mount Pleasant is LGBTQ+ friendly, and open to all women and non-binary folks. It’s not just for CMU students, but any women around the area looking for a walking group. Walkers are also welcome to bring their pets. The club’s goal is to be an inclusive and safe community that meets once a week for walks around a park in Mount Pleasant. “It’s definitely an inclusive community just to come meet people or get out of the house and go for a walk and do something for yourself,” Henry said. “Just take some time, be outside and get to know other people or just kind of do your own thing with us.” Walks are usually one or two miles and will last around 30-60 minutes. The schedule of walks for the month of October can be found on the club’s Instagram page @hotgirlwalksmp. For the month of October there will be a spooky basket giveaway. Each walk counts as one entry and bringing a friend will count as an additional entry. Attend all six walks and earn two extra entries. The gift basket will include gift cards, candy, candles, comfy socks and “something just cute and fun for someone.” The club also looks forward to a possible collaboration with Mount Pleasant Nutrition. “I know they kind of want to work together and maybe do something after a walk where we go there, so I’m not sure what they have in mind for that,” Henry said. The group is slowly growing as the semester goes on, promoting fitness, self confidence and making new friends. “We’re learning and growing together,” she said.
