It’s that time of year again. Pumpkins, cider, leaves  and everyone’s favorite — sweet treats! Autumn is blooming here at Central Michigan University, and people want to know, where’s the best place to go for a specialty fall dessert?

Mount Pleasant is home to many special bakeries including Robaire’s, Sweet Tooth, and Crème de la Crème Cupcakes.

Robaire’s Bakery has been a favorite in Mt. Pleasant since 1963. Nominated as “Best Bakery in Mount Pleasant” for the last 10 years, they have certainly kept people coming back for more. Robaire’s Bakery has passed down family recipes for generations, creating delicious home baked goods that everyone craves. Robaire’s is located off of Mission Street, across from Buffalo Wild Wings.

Robaire’s is offering a large variety of fall themed treats.

“We have all kinds of donuts here, apple cider, both in glazed as well as cinnamon, pumpkin, offered in chocolate, glazed and cream cheese, and honey wheat maple,” employee Lorrie Dunlap said. “The donuts are a favorite around this time of year.”

Looking around the bakery, you’ll find dozens of Halloween and fall decorated cookies, cakes and cupcakes. Customers can customize their own fall desserts like pumpkin pies, mini tarts, muffins and bars.

“We have a really unique item in the fall, too. It’s our homemade pumpkin brûlée,” Dunlap said. “Everyone keeps coming back for more.”

Sweet Tooth Bakery is a French style bakery and pastry shop located in Stadium Mall. Sweet Tooth has become an instant favorite among college students.

Walking into the bakery, you are presented with glass cases filled with enticing fall treats. Pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin cookies are big fall favorites at the bakery.

“So far, the pumpkin roll has been the most popular item this season,” employee Kris Gerred said. “It’s not really spicy. It blends well with the pumpkin flavor and cream cheese. It’s not overbearing at all. It’s one of my favorites.”

Sweet Tooth also offers a variety of pumpkin cheesecakes and bread during the fall season. There are a variety of soups served specifically during the fall season as well.

“Each week we plan to change it up with white chili, chicken noodle, French onion, potato leek and vegetable beef,” Gerred said. “Those are usually good for the colder seasons.”

There are many unique items at Sweet Tooth, such as quiche, tiramisu, and crème brûlée.

“Everything is made from scratch here, nothing is shipped in. Everything is homemade and fresh each day, and we use quality ingredients,” Gerred said. “That’s what we take pride in.”

Crème de la Crème Cupcakes is a new treat to Mt. Pleasant. Crème de la Crème is located downtown off of Broadway St.  During the fall season, Crème de la Crème offers a unique variety of cupcakes.

The showcase displays seven fall specialty cupcakes: sweet apple pie, maple bacon, salted caramel, pumpkin cheesecake, salted pumpkin, blueberry pancake and carrot spice cake. The display is also decorated with vanilla bean cupcakes dressed up in orange sprinkles and frosting.

“The blueberry pancake cupcake is brand new, and my absolute favorite,” employee Tyler Higgins said. “You have to try it.”

Crème de la Crème Cupcakes is clearly unafraid of trying out new bold cupcake flavors. The pumpkin cheesecake cupcake seems to be the ultimate favorite among customers.

“This cupcake was demanded by so many, we made it a year-round treat. Customers cannot get enough,” owner Kristy Cable said. “Sweet apple pie is also very popular, the fresh apples really bring out the flavor.”
