November 21, 2010 Featured, Restaurants Mountain Town Station: Awesome atmosphere, average food Mountain Town Station has been home to good food and spirits since 1996. This hometown restaurant incorporates a feel of an old time bar while still keeping the menu up to date. Mountain Town Station is located at 506 West Broadway in downtown Mount Pleasant. (Patrick Gillespie | Grand Central Magazine) Mountain Town Station has been home to good food and spirits since 1996. This hometown restaurant incorporates a feel of an old time bar while still keeping the menu up to date. Located at 506 West Broadway Street in downtown Mt. Pleasant, this establishment offers the option to dine in or take food to go. The menu options range from appetizers and pub entrees to a “Create your own railroad” combo. With this deal, people are allowed to choose from steak, a Trackside entree or seafood and then are able to pick from seven side dishes that range from $5.99 to $16.99 in price. Mountain Town also offers daily specials which include pasta night on Mondays, where customers are able to create their own pasta dish for $10.99. Thursday is pint night and brewed beer is just $2.00. The entrees of choice were the barbecue beef brisket and the bistro chicken sandwich. The BBQ beef brisket sandwich is slow roasted beef, covered in barbecue sauce and served on a club roll with steak fries and costs just under $12. To spice things up, the bistro chicken sandwich is topped with sauteed peppers, onions, mushrooms and Gouda cheese. This sandwich comes on a focacia bun with chili mayo and steak fries. Payton Willey, a journalism junior, said “I enjoyed the dim-lit coziness as well as the rustic scenery, making for a grandiose expectation which soon fell flat upon tasting the food, which proved to be nothing but average.” If something sweet sounds good, then the Mountain Town Cookie is something that will make any meal end on a good note. The Mountain Town Cookie comes in a cast iron skillet, with scoops of french vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream. This delicious dessert can be experienced for $5.99. “The description does not do it justice for this incredibly decadent mouthful of pleasure,” Willey said. Mountain Town’s staff really makes the atmosphere more enjoyable because of their upbeat personalities and helpful ways. People can choose to sit in either the lounge or dining area. These rustic elements enhance the comfortable atmosphere for a wide variety of customers, and help make the restaurant be above average even when the food is only sub-par.
