May 6, 2021 Style & Beauty Outfit Inspiration for Graduation Story by Kaylee Winter Photos by Alayna Fiel Graduation. This a day that you have worked long and hard for, so of course you’re going to want to look your best. Trying to find the perfect outfit to wear under your gown can be overwhelming to some. For others, it might be as easy as pulling something straight out of their closet. For those struggling on what to wear on graduation day, here is some inspiration for you. If you are someone who wants to keep it simple, choosing a solid neutral color is the best way to go. Colors such as white, black, nude, or even yellow, are some colors that would pair well with the maroon gown. If you are feeling bold and want an outfit to be noticed, this can be achieved by wearing a colorful or patterned piece. When deciding on an outfit, you can either dress semi-casual or formal. For women, most decide to wear a dress on the day they graduate. Wearing a dress can be casual or formal, leaving tons of options to find the perfect dress. If you are a woman who is not a fan of wearing dresses, dress pants are a great alternative. If dress pants are of your choice, you can spice the outfit up with a bold top, or keep it simple and casual. For men, it is best to wear bottoms of neutral color. You can add a pop of color with a shirt of your choice. If a more formal look is what you’re going for, go ahead and wear suit pants with a nice button-up shirt. Wearing khakis with a simple shirt is a great way to keep your outfit casual, but still looking nice and put together. An easy way to stand out from everyone wearing a maroon gown is to wear a fun pair of shoes. You can wear patterned or colorful shoes if you want to express yourself more. If you’re wanting a more formal look, keep the shoes simple by wearing a solid color pair, such as black, white, or nude. Accessories can be an easy and fun way to add more character to your look. Adding a watch, necklace, bracelet, or rings, can tie the entire outfit together. This is also a great way to add a pop of color if you decide to wear a neutral color outfit. If you want to express yourself in other ways than just through your outfit, decorate your graduation cap. This is an easy way to add uniqueness to your overall outfit. CMU senior, Hallie Neller, decided to decorate her cap around something that she loves. “I chose this design for two reasons. The first is that I’m a book fanatic,” Neller said. “The second reason is that my career plan is to work for a publishing house editing manuscripts, so my future will revolve around books.” Photo courtesy of Hallie Neller No matter what you decide to wear or if you decorate your cap, graduation day is to honor you. So, where what makes you happy and expresses who you are. Find an outfit that makes you feel good.
