April 29, 2010 Arts & Entertainment Featured Blog: Madonna “Glee” Tribute Laura Uribe gives the scoop on the latest Glee episode. It seems like the talk of the town these days, when it comes to television and music, is all about the “Glee” episode that paid tribute to some of Madonna’s, the so-called “Queen of Pop,” biggest hits. In the episode “The Power of Madonna” that aired last week after “American Idol” on the FOX network, the characters in the glee club at William McKinley High School, as well as the cheerleaders and school staff, found themselves singing some of the artists most popular tunes including “Like A Prayer” and “Express Yourself.” Although the episode was fairly new, according to MTV, the album “The Power of Madonna,” that features songs from the episode, has gone to #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Just in its debut week, it has beaten the “Iron Man 2” soundtrack, that features music by rock band AC/DC, and tween sensation Justin Beiber’s “My World 2.0” album. The biggest shock is that Yahoo also reported that it even beat the actual Madonna’s CD/DVD combo release from her “Sticky & Sweet Tour.” The Hollywood Reporter claims that due to this and other recent episodes, “Glee” is officially the highest-rated new show of the season on television. Now rumors are circling about Britney Spears and Lady Gaga tribute episodes in the works. Other than the episode itself, a music video tribute to “Vogue” sung by show regular Jane Lynch, while in character as cheerleader mentor Sue Sylvester, has been seen by almost 80,000 viewers in just six days on YouTube. Also, a comparison video of it to the original has been seen by almost half a million online users. Judging from how popular this episode was for the series, it’ll be interesting to see how other episodes in the future that also have tributes will be like.
