April 27, 2016 Arts & Entertainment, Arts & Entertainment, Internet Favorites Noteworthy Binge: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt “Unbreakable! They alive dammit! It’s a miracle! These females are strong as hell.” It’s not quite the opening theme song you’d expect, unless, of course, that opening line is from a Tina Fey show. Fans of “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation” and anything Tina Fey related, rejoice. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” with producer Tina Fey, “The Office” star Ellie Kemper (Kimmy) and “30 Rock” actress Jane Krawkowski (Mrs. Vorhees), is a Netflix treasure. Filled with one-liners and LOL-worthy characters, the Netflix original series “Unbreakable” follows the life of mole-woman Kimmy Schmidt, a recent escapee from the captivity of a cult-ish pastor in an underground bunker. Upon finally being rescued after 15 years, Kimmy and the other women are asked to interview on the “Today Show” and while the others go back home, Kimmy decides to stick it out in New York City. Don’t let Kimmy’s rather morbid past freak you out – she’s fine now (sort of) and has moved on to live in the Big Apple with her fabulous roommate Titus Andromedon and landlord Lillian, all while dressed like a scrunchie & Heelys-obsessed teenager from the ‘90s. On top of dealing with the obvious setbacks and struggles one would admittedly face while being kept underground 15 years, Kimmy is still learning the ins and outs of adulthood, while playing catch up with all the life she missed. We see it all – from tying her shoes, to figuring out text-speak (STFU means “Save The Flying Unicorns,” obviously), to her first kiss. Netflix has just released the second season of “Unbreakable,” allowing for only a short binge (because we know you’ve got studying to do, don’t lie to us). If you’re in the mood to not think too hard, have some laughs and give your brain a break, “Unbreakable” is the show for you. Go watch and enjoy yourself. Or, as Kimmy would say, catch ya on the flip side, MILF (My Interesting Lady Friend, duh).
