September 25, 2012 Drinks, Featured, Food & Beverage, Restaurants Q&A: Yogurt Yeti I scream, you scream, we all scream for… frozen yogurt? The latest dessert craze has made its way to Mount Pleasant. Yogurt Yeti, located at 4459 E. Bluegrass Road, is Mount Pleasant’s first “froyo” shop. The experience is completely customer-based, as each person can customize his or her treat with various frozen yogurt flavors and toppings that range from fruit to cookies, sprinkles, marshmallow, caramel or chocolate syrup, cereal, cheesecake pieces and everything in between. Customers pay by the ounce and can help themselves to as much or as little as they like. Yogurt Yeti offers a modern-day approach to ice cream, and Mount Pleasant has greeted the business with open arms. The following interview is with co-owner Jerry Yanna. Q: How long have you been open? A: Three weeks. Q: What are your hours? A: Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Q: What’s your most popular menu item? A: Chocolate or vanilla. It’s very close. Q: Why is this a good place for students to come? A: In my humble opinion, I think it’s a great product. I feel we give good service and provide a great atmosphere. Q: When do you think the frozen yogurt craze started? A: Down in the south years ago. I dare say in the last five years. Q: Do you think this will take off in Mount Pleasant? A: I’m hoping our product and service will take off. I’m pleasantly surprised at the reception Mount Pleasant has given us so far. Q: What makes frozen yogurt so popular? A: The quality for sure. Q: Why frozen yogurt? A: My brother-in-law owns the franchise and talked me into it. Q: Who comes up with the flavors? A: It all depends on the customers and the popularity of the flavor. For example, we just changed ‘Coconut’ to ‘Island Banana.’ Q: Is everything homemade? A: We don’t make anything in the shop. We aren’t licensed to do that. We buy a lot from Sam’s Club and Gordon Food Supply. Photos by Calli Johnson
