Student Style Spotlight: Cozy and Instagram Ready with Katy Mifsud

Central Michigan University’s campus serves as a runway for the everyday fashion lover. Forget magazines and paparazzi shots, the real style icons can be spotted walking to class.

Katy Mifsud, a freshman from South Lyon, has serious style that turns heads everywhere she goes.

Mifsud says her “go-to outfit” consists of a casual cardigan and cozy blanket scarf topped off with a top knot bun.

This look is essential to this fashionista’s wardrobe, as she describes her style as “simple and classic.”

Essentials in a Snap

Mifsud says an important staple in her closet is American Eagle jeans. She swears by the brand, and sticks to it when finding essential items.

Neutral colors catch Mifsud’s eye when shopping for the perfect outfit.

“It’s easy to dress neutral colors up and down, and they’re perfect for throwing on accessories that add a pop of color,” Mifsud said.

Comfy and Cozy for Class

Adding a big blanket scarf is a good way to add color and variety to any plain outfit for Mifsud.

Mifsud says this look is perfect for class, because it can give leggings and sweaters a dressed up look when you aren’t really trying.

Mifsud’s style is matched well with the plethora of short boots perfect for spring time. These brands include Ralph Lauren, Sperry and Uggs.

Drawing Inspiration from Instagram

Gigi Hadid seems to inspire Mifsud’s comfy style the most.

“I like to stalk her Instagram, and off the runway she is very simple and chic. I like the way she wears ripped boyfriend jeans with a plain T-shirt.”

Another celebrity style that inspires Mifsud is Selena Gomez.

Be True to Yourself

Having a style that represents yourself is important to Mifsud, she doesn’t feel the need to dress like someone that she isn’t. This Chippewa reflects her warm personality through her style and encourages others to be themselves, too.

She closed off our interview with inspirational words about being true to who you are.

“It is always important to be yourself – no matter how the trends change around you.”
