Gallery: The 5 Pillars of Africa: African Student Association Show 2023

Central Michigan University’s African Student Association hosted its annual showcase in the Plachta Auditorium in Warriner Hall, on CMU’s campus in Mount Pleasant, Mich. on March 31st, 2023.

This year’s show was entitled “The Five Pillars of Africa.” The showcase encapsulated all five regions from North, East, South, West, and Central Africa through fashion, dance, and music.

“I think its great [showing representation] because Nigeria is one of the popular countries, just knowing that we showed love to the other parts of Africa as well,” says Soraya Taylor, one of the models from the showcase.

ASA aims to foster diversity and cultural awareness among its peers at CMU by merging African culture and creating a united community of both students and faculty.

“I am 130% proud! I feel like all of the models and music was outstanding. They went up there and did their thing and it was all phenomenal” says Travell Dontay Weatherby, the announcer for “The 5 Pillars of Africa” showcase. “I feel like they did a really good job, all of their hard work paid off for sure.”
