Break out the jackets: Pinterest does winter coats

One coat. Two coats. Red coats. Blue coats.

There are so many different styles and colors of coats it’s almost impossible to choose just one.

Pinterest shows the most popular coat for this winter season as the double-breasted peacoat. These coats are double-buttoned and vary in length from just below the hip to just above the knees. Originally worn by sailors, these types of coats have become a female favorite.

Peacoats come in a variety of colors but the most popular colors are red, white, black, navy blue and yellow. Some of them come with belts or bows to tie around the waist of the coat.

Pinterest pairs these coats with leggings or skinny jeans, scarves and boots.

In some cases, the coats flare out at the bottom in a dress-like manner. If this is the case with your coat you should definitely wear leggings or nylons underneath. There is no need to take the coat off because these coats are meant to be worn as your outfit.

Here is a guideline of colors to wear with your coats:

Red coats: If you have a red coat you should pair it with skinny jeans, a light-colored scarf and brown or black boots.

White coats: You should pair your white coat with black leggings or dark skinny jeans. Add a dark-colored scarf and your favorite black boots.

Black coats: You can pair your black coat with black leggings or skinny jeans. You should wear a colorful patterned scarf and a cute pair of boots.

Navy blue coats: Navy blue is a fun color to play with. You can wear light or dark colors with this coat. A popular Pinterest image pairs a navy blue double-breasted peacoat with white leggings, a patterned white scarf and brown riding boots.

Yellow coats: Yellow coats are harder to pair items with because there are so many shades of yellow. If you have a mustard yellow coat you should pair it with dark bottoms and accessories in a natural color. Try an olive colored scarf and brown boots. If you have a bright yellow coat, you can pair it with dark items or fun, bright items, but you don’t want to overdo it with the bright colors.
